Terms of Use

These Terms govern your use of the Quillstone application ("the App") from Cove Technology, Inc. ("we"). By installing or using the App you agree to them.

1. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the App on Macs you own or control. The App's code is proprietary; you may not reverse-engineer, resell, or redistribute it except as allowed by law. The App is free to use for local writing. Quillstone Pro is an optional, one-time license sold through our payment processor (Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record); it activates the Pro features on up to three Macs and does not expire. Refunds are handled per our stated refund policy and the processor's terms.

2. Your content

You own the books, text, images, audio, and other work you create with the App ("Your Content"). We claim no ownership and, because the App is offline-first, we do not receive Your Content unless you enable an outside service (see Privacy Policy). You are responsible for Your Content and for having the rights to any material you import.

3. AI-generated material

The App can generate text, images, and audio with AI models. You are responsible for reviewing AI output before publishing or distributing it — including for accuracy, originality, rights clearance, and any AI-use disclosures required by the stores or platforms you publish to. AI output may be inaccurate or resemble existing works; we make no guarantee it is original, correct, or fit for any purpose.

4. Third-party services and models

Optional features connect to third parties (OpenAI, Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Brave, Hugging Face, CivitAI, publishing platforms) and use open-weight AI models, each under its own terms and license. When you enable them, you agree to comply with those terms, including each model's and provider's Acceptable Use Policy. You are responsible for content you generate, store, narrate, or publish.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the App to create or distribute unlawful material (including content that is illegal to produce or possess), to infringe others' rights, or in violation of any applicable model, provider, payment-processor, or store policy. The App includes an optional 18+ mode for mature fiction; enabling it does not waive the foregoing.

6. Updates

The App may check for and install updates via Sparkle. We may change or discontinue features.

7. Disclaimers & liability

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR LOST DATA, LOST PROFITS, OR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.

Please back up your library regularly. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

8. Governing law & contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Cove Technology, Inc. is organized, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Questions: support@quillstone.io.
